
SensETH is a team of students representing ETH Zurich in the SensUs Competition, an international student competition in the field of biosensing technology. During the SensUs Innovation Days, student teams from all over the world will test their innovative biosensors at Eindhoven University of Technology in the Netherlands.
SensUs 2026 evolves around the development of a biosensor for continuous monitoring of Levodopa for Parkinson’s disease. Levodopa, a precursor of Dopamine, is a pharmaceutical drug used to reduce motor symptoms in Parkinson’s disease. The long-term use of Levodopa as a treatment is challenging because the therapeutic window narrows in later stages of the disease, meaning the precise dosage of Levodopa becomes increasingly important. While too low Levodopa levels will not show any alleviation of symptoms, too high levels will lead to motor side effects like dyskinesia (involuntary movements). A continuous biosensing system would provide important insights into fluctuations in Levodopa levels and help adjusting medication accordingly, thus contributing to better management of the disease and helping to avoid unwanted side effects (SensUs Theme, 2026).
Our team consists of 15 students, all of whom are highly motivated to contribute to innovation in the field of biosensors and to work towards a solution with real clinical relevance for the treatment of Parkinson’s disease.
